Description
A slip-on is the hardest shoe to get right, because there is nothing to hide behind. No laces, no brogueing, no hardware. Either the leather and the last are good or the shoe looks cheap on the foot.
The Ontario is cut from full-grain hide and built in our own factory in Tamil Nadu, in a group that has spent seven decades making footwear for brands sold across Europe and the United States. The vamp carries a basketweave texture that catches light and gives the shoe some depth; the heel counter is left plain, so the whole thing stays quiet rather than busy. Inside, full leather lining that breathes through a long evening.
Underneath, a lightweight rubber outsole. A leather sole looks purer and slides on a marble floor at a reception. This one doesn’t. Black, because a slip-on you can wear to the office on Thursday and to a wedding on Saturday is worth more than one you wear twice a year.
